So once again, the Fourth of July. I’m not American, but the US has always been an important country for me personally. I’m an entrepreneur and coming from an entrepreneurial family, for me America has always been the place where people respect entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs. It is also the place to think big.
The people who left the old world and went to America wanted to create a new start and define their own destiny. 1849 people followed the Gold Rush to the San Francisco region. I think we can say they already started to create the Silicon Valley attitude very early on. In the US people have always wanted to create their own businesses and not only a small corner shop, but build something that can become really big.
Corporations have been important in the developments of Europe and Asia. Many people have worked and really wanted to work for large corporations. In many countries you have been a kind of loser, if you didn’t get a safe work place in a large company. But the world is changing. The whole world has woken up to realize that corporations are not enough for the economy and for creating work for all the people. We need startups and entrepreneurs.
I have spent quite a lot of time in the US. A couple of months ago I traveled around the US and also spoke at several events (e.g. SXSW and WBT Innovation Marketplace). I talked about crowd funding, Grow VC and the Virtual Silicon Valley. And the feedback was great. The best comments were “this brings back the American Dream to all people” and “this can democratize America again! Anyone can be a part of the startup stories“. It was really an honor to get that kind of feedback. But we must be humble, we cannot make these kinds of changes alone and it also takes it’s time. But it is great to see people really feel that a more open, equal and transparent funding market is important for people and the economy.
I want to wish you all an excellent Independence Day. I think the American Dream is still important and it is becoming important around the world. That’s why we, at Grow VC, also work hard to make it possible for more people. Part of this work is to soon reveal some really interesting things in our service. I want to employ all of you to work together and make the American Dream and Democratic Investment Market a real future to celebrate!
